PEAI's Louie Jung (Grade 9) named "Best Delegate" at Yonsei MUN 2020

PEAI cordially invites everyone to join us as we celebrate the achievements of our very own Louie Jung at Yonsei Model United Nations 2020.

For years at PEAI, everyone — both teachers and classmates alike — derived immense joy in working with Louie, marveling at his keen intellect, burning desire for knowledge, and talent for articulate self-expression. But what is perhaps even more impressive, on top of all that, is his profound sense of modesty one rarely finds in students as adroit as Louie. These fine qualities all came to a head in January of this year, as Louie teamed up with Anais Ha (yet another fellow — albeit, and unfortunately, former — PEAI student) at Yonsei MUN as plenipotentiaries of the Republic of South Africa. Together, they attended and collaborated with other global representatives to the UN General Assembly Third Committee (otherwise known as the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee) in order to discuss and resolve the following issues: (1) Determining ways to resolve gender inequality in a global context, and (2) Civil disobedience and its influence on governmental and societal changes.

With perspicacious insight on the self-interests of their home country, yet armed with the wherewithal of the self-limiting effects that the pressures and cost-benefit matrix of international relations naturally have on all nations, Louie and Anais masterfully demonstrated the fullest extent of their abilities. By the end, though South Africa was unfortunately unable to attain the optimal results for which it could have hoped, their efforts shined through as their home nation was still able to partially achieve its goals of bolstering its reputation as a leading figure on the international stage. In recognition of and testament to this fact, Louie was nominated “Best Delegate” of the Third Committee.
