Grade 4 - Poetry Out Loud!

Grade 4 students were really enjoying the process of making poEtry In literature class but recitiing the poetry was not an easy task. So made lessons on how to read poetry(increasing/decreasing voice and tone, pausing for effect etc) and decided to have a grade wide competition. Every teacher in grade 4 sent theIre top two best poetry recitals to the finals. 4th graders gathered together to hear the best speakers.

The students had to pick from three serious poems. The Raven by Edgard Allen Poe, Do Not Go Gentle into that Goodnight by Dylan Thomas, and Beat Beat Drum by Walt Whitman. The winner was chosen by who was able to emotionally connect to the poem the best and reciting it with emotion while memorizing the poem.
