Infographics Project

In January we learned about nonfiction text features. Part of this lesson was to introduce how images can improve understanding for the reader.  In this lesson we discussed infographics.  Information graphics or infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data, or knowledge intended to present information quickly and clearly.  They can improve understanding by utilizing graphics to enhance a person’s ability to see patterns and trends.

Students were given articles to read in class.  We discussed the articles and then students were required to create their own infographics to communicate the information in the article in a more effective way.

Initially I was worried this concept would be too difficult and that students wouldn't be able to conceptualize the information into images.  However after doing the lesson, the students seemed to get a grasp of the concept.  While they were working in class, it was clear to see the students were doing a great job.  The following images were some of the more successful infographics that were made.  The students far exceeded my expectations for this project and I feel they benefited from it.
