Button Activity

One of the many different literary devices covered in 2nd Grade is “Categorization”.

In this activity, students were given jars of buttons to sort in various ways.

Students were pushed to think beyond the normal categories like: “Size, shape, and color” and they thought of new and interesting ways like, “buttons that match my shirt” or “buttons larger or smaller than a quarter.”

A successful activity to improve critical thinking. Excelsior!
