The Timeline! Students organize their views on History through a Timeline in the classroom!
Us
PEAI is a community of learners, creators, dreamers collaboratively built and sustained by all of us. The fruits of our labor have impacted the world. Members of our community are not passive participants in the worldโthey are transformative agents.
Approach
Our approach to language learning is grounded in theory and designed to meet the needs of our students. We believe in a functional approach to language learning.
This theory emphasizes the semantic and communicative dimension rather than merely the grammatical characteristics of language, and leads to specification and organization of language teaching content by categories and meaning and function rather than by elements of structure and grammar.
-Richards & Rogers, 2001
Through meaningful classroom exchanges and relevant, modern texts, we immerse our students a democratic, communicative environment where they can thrive.
Results
We push our students to trust in the learning process, but also to focus on results. Both teachers and students measure progress based on an objective-based curriculum. Our curriculum is guided by a set of objectives based on Common Core standards for native English speakers. The objectives are divided into four categories: oral communication, writing, reading, and media literacy. Our assessment is designed to ensure our students make meaningful, lasting, gains.
ORAL COMMUNICATION
โ
Students will be able to:
(1) listen in order to understand and respond appropriately in a variety of situations for a variety of purposes; (2) use speaking skills and strategies appropriately to communicate with different audiences for a variety of purposes; (3) reflect on and identify their strengths as listeners and speakers, areas for improvement, and the strategies they found most helpful in oral communication situations.
READING
โ
Students will be able to:
(1) read and demonstrate an understanding of a variety of literary, graphic, and informational texts, using a range of strategies to construct meaning; (2) recognize a variety of text forms, text features, and stylistic elements and demonstrate understanding of how they help communicate meaning; (3) use knowledge of words and cueing systems to read fluently; (4) reflect on and identify their strengths as readers, areas for improvement, and the strategies they found most helpful before, during, and after reading.
WRITING
โ
Students will be able to:
(1) generate, gather, and organize ideas and information to write for an intended purpose and audience; (2) draft and revise their writing, using a variety of informational, literary, and graphic forms and stylistic elements appropriate for the purpose and audience; (3) use editing, proofreading, and publishing skills and strategies, and knowledge of language conventions, to correct errors, refine expression, and present their work effectively; (4) reflect on and identify their strengths as writers, areas for improvement, and the strategies they found most helpful at different stages in the writing process.
MEDIA LITERACY
โ
Students will be able to:
(1) demonstrate an understanding of a variety of media texts; (2) identify some media forms and explain how the conventions and techniques associated with them are used to create meaning; (3) create a variety of media texts for different purposes and audiences, using appropriate forms, conventions, and techniques; (4) reflect on and identify their strengths as media interpreters and creators, areas for improvement, and the strategies they found most helpful in understanding and creating media texts.
โDo not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.โ

History
In 2005, PEAI opened in Daechi-dong with just four teachers. We set forth a goal to teach language differently. We adopted a democratic approach to teaching and learning and in doing so desired to prove that language learning pedagogy could evolve in South Korea. We dedicated ourselves to our learners and built a community of students, parents, and teachers.
